As we all know the Shrine Hospital established in 1922 has been helping children from around the globe under the auspices of the Al Malaikah Shrine. On May 8, 2002, thirteen Nobles of the Al Malaikah Shrine gathered at the Ararat Home in Mission Hills, California, to discuss about the formation of a new club under the bylaws of the Al Malaikah Shrine. The participants of the meeting discussed the name, objectives and the bylaws of the club.
Within the next few weeks extensive work was done. The Club was named the Awesome "A" Shrine Club upon the suggestion of Nobles George Yacoobian and Bob Kirklin. In June, 2002, Noble Sahak Sam Boyamyan with the consent of the other participants turned a petition to the Al Malaikah Shrine requesting approval of the formation of the new Shrine Club. On July 8, 2002, at the stated meeting of the Al Malaikah Shrine, Illustrious Potentate Merl H. Seastrom and the Divan granted the request for the formation of the Awesome "A" Shrine Club, the letter "A" standing for the mark of excellence. In October, 2002, at the stated meeting the Club was presented with their Charter. The objective of the Club is to aid unfortunate children, specifically those who are in dire need of the assistance and services of the Shrine Hospital in Los Angeles.
The members of the Awesome "A" Shrine Club elected their first president, Sahak Sam Boyamyan and his line of officers. Since the formation, the Awesome "A" has dedicated their time and energy for the progress and growth of the Club. In February, 2003, with the assistance of the members, a child who was in dire need of the services of the Shrine Hospital traveled from Armenia and was admitted to the Shrine Hospital in Los Angeles.
